In the last two decades, we have seen a significant increase of interest in agent-based computing and agreement technologies. This field is now set to become one of the key intelligent systems technologies in the 21st century.
EUMAS 2018 is a designated event of the European Association of Multi-Agent Systems (EURAMAS): http://www.euramas.org. It is a yearly conference held regularly at the end of the calendar year, first in Oxford, UK in 2003, followed by Barcelona, Spain 2004, Brussels, Belgium 2005, Lisbon, Portugal 2006, Hammamet, Tunisia 2007, Bath, UK 2008, Agia Napa, Cyprus 2009, Paris, France 2010, Maastricht, Netherlands 2011, Dublin, Ireland 2012, Toulouse, France 2013, Prague, Czechia 2014, Athens, Greece 2015, Valencia, Spain 2016, and \'Evry, France 2017. This is the first time the conference is being held in Scandinavia.
AT 2018 is the 6th edition of the International Conference Series on Agreement Technologies following successful outcome of the previous editions of the International Conference Series on Agreement Technologies: AT 2012 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, AT 2013 in Beijing, China, AT 2015 in Athens, AT 2016 in Valencia, and AT 2017 in \'Evry. The AT Conference Series provide a forum for new ideas and techniques involving design, implementation and verification of next generation open distributed systems, focused on the notion of agreement among computational agents.
The motivation behind organising EUMAS/AT 2018 in Bergen is to promote the research on multi-agent systems and agreement technologies in Scandinavia. Norway is beginning to recognise the relevance of AI and considerable interest among Norwegian researchers and students exists for AI research. However, opportunities to follow cutting-edge research events in AI locally are still scarce. Organising EUMAS/AT 2018 in Norway gives us the opportunity to strengthen the existing interest and help grow the University of Bergen as an AI research centre in Norway.
