Alternative title: Gas Detection with SafeSource and digitization for Maritime sector

Awarded: NOK 6.0 mill.

Project Number:

296119

Project Period:

2019 - 2022

The overall idea of the project is to develop an optical gas detector with a new infrared source as the core component. Both maintenance and safety are to be improved in relation to current solutions, as well as adapted to the needs for digitization in the Maritime sector for the current market and, in addition, future digitization needs are prepared. New IR source and gas detector have been designed, manufactured and tested through many rounds of development. New optics, electronics, software and a completely new IR source have been developed. Several new manufacturing processes have been developed for the IR source. The IR source has improved properties compared to existing IR sources and also offers completely new possibilities in new future products. We expect that the IR source will lead to the start of new development projects and new products. After this project, we will continue the development of the IR source and qualify it for use in gas detectors. Work has been carried out with digital communication solutions to cover today's needs in gas detection, as well as being prepared for tomorrow's needs both in Security and Cybersecurity. The system that has been developed analyzes data from its own components and environmental impact so that it is prepared so that maintenance can be based on the status of the gas detector instead of regular maintenance. In addition, it has been prepared for the end user to make use of detailed data from the detector in their own analyses, opening up possibilities for planned and possibly predictive maintenance. An example of Predictive maintenance can be where a detector in an unmanned installation is replaced during planned maintenance before it actually fails. Unplanned maintenance is expensive, especially on unmanned installations. Further communication solutions will continue to be worked on after the completion of this project. The gas detector system has in this project been prepared so that new communication solutions that come on the market can be developed and implemented without having to make changes to the gas detector itself.
