Secure Unlock - A digital ecosystem for delivery of goods and services behind locked door

The project «Secure Unlock» - A digital ecosystem for delivery of goods and services behind electronic locks - will enable the development of new solutions for home delivery of services and goods and pickup of return shipments. This provide dispatcher, service vendors, transport operators and customers increased flexibility with individual delivery formats and times. If the customer is not at home, at the moment there are few safe solutions for home deliveries. Normal complexity is that the customer and the delivery personnel must meet at the same location at the same time. «Secure Unlock» objective is to offer a new solution, secure goods or service delivery inside or near home and no requirement for customers presence. «Secure Unlock» is a digital ecosystem, facilitating seamless connections between online web shops, transport operators, service providers and vendors of digital locks. "Secure unlock" is available and welcome all commercial and public stakeholders for goods and service deliveries. "Secure unlock" provide a new basis for innovation of new products and services, collaboration- and business-models for business stakeholders, and an easier option for customers. The project includes pilot installations for test and verification. "Secure unlock" shall evaluate and complete a concept approval. Elements like customers acceptance, willingness to pay, development of new services, effects upon travel and transport patterns. Concept approval will explore commercial potential for all stakeholders and is vital to expand "Secure unlock" to larger market beyond the project members. Environmental footprint impacts with improved transport patterns and new delivery services is an integral and important part of the project evaluation. The project has conducted anationwide survey of people who shop online. The survey indicates a positive attitude in this part of the population to adopt various digital solutions with secure access management for home delivery of goods and services. Parcel box with digital lock gets the highest acceptance, box rack with digital lock ends up in "second place", but also digital lock in entrance door gets more positive than negative response. Participants expect that such technology will have positive consequences for both recipients and transporters, in the form of e-commerce becoming easier and more flexible, and will require less communication between the recipient and the carrier in connection with deliveries. Among survey participants, nearly a third shop online at least once a month, and about the same proportion shop for clothing and entertainment items on a monthly basis. The pandemic situation has caused technical development and pilot activities in Secure Unlock to be delayed. At the same time, the project has established cooperation with external national actors that anchor the project activities beyond the consortium, and confirm that the solutions being developed are relevant and interesting.

Prosjektet «Lås opp» skal bidra til utvikling av nye løsninger for hjemlevering av varer og tjenester og avlevering av returforsendelser. Dette vil gi både avsender, tjenesteytere, leverandører av transporttjenester og mottaker økt fleksibilitet på grunn av mer individuelt tilpassede leveringsformater og -tidspunkt. Dersom kunden ikke er tilstede, er det i dag lite utbredt med trygge løsninger for levering i eller utenfor hjemmet. Det at kunden må være tilstede tilfører en ekstra kompleksitet ved at både kunde og bud må være på samme plass til samme tid. «Lukk deg opp» søker å tilby en ny løsning for dette, slik at varen eller tjenesten kan leveres i eller ved hjemmet på en trygg måte, og uten at kunden må være tilstede. «Lås opp» baserer seg på et digitalt økosystem som krever et godt samarbeid mellom transportører, nettbutikker, tjenesteleverandører og leverandører av digitale låser/alarmer og bokser. Et fullt operativt system vil i prinsippet være tilgjengelig for alle næringsaktører som ønsker å slutte seg til det. Prosjektet vil kunne berede grunnen for nye produkter, samarbeidsformer, forretningsmuligheter og -modeller for næringsaktørene, samt en økt valgfrihet for kundene. En viktig del av prosjektet er å evaluere og verifisere konseptet. Dette inkluderer å se på publikumsaksept og betalingsvillighet, potensial for tjenesteutvikling og virkninger på reisevaner og transportarbeid. Et proof-of-concept for at dette er økonomisk bærekraftig for de involverte aktørene vil være avgjørende for at tjenesten skal utvides til en større del av kundegruppen. Det vil også være en viktig del av evalueringen å studere hvilke effekter nye leveringsalternativer kan ha på transportarbeid og miljø, som konsekvens av endrede reisevaner og transportmønstre hos kunder og i transportbransjen.
