LiTRo is a project with the main objective of establishing a test facility with the purpose of investigating lift and transport of sediments. During the duration of the project an hydraulic test facility was designed and erected and with the basis in a 30ft container. The facility allows the generation of a pulsating flowfield expected to influence the stability of settled particles in a flow field. The project was concluded by a comprehensive mapping of hydraulic performance, as well as the development of procedures for experimental testing of the stability of settled particles in the pulsating flow.

The project aims at designing and erecting an experimental flow test facility that allows a non-zero average velocity superimposed an oscillating velocity amplitude. A pipe section of the facility will contain a test-bed that allows the preparation of sedimentation samples such as rocks, gravel or pebbles. As part of the running the facility the flow regimes possible will be mapped, and with a particular attention given the specifics of the flow field close to the walls. A sediment test bed will be developed and used as part of the test facility. A particular task is to determine forces acting on solids for the various flow regimes that can be created in the facility. State of the art instrumentation will be used for flow regimes mapping, and customized solutions for detecting solids lift and transport/convection of solid in the flow will be developed. Given the relative simplicity of the test facility, the possibility of parametric experimentation and the generic results it can provide, this project is considered suitable both for high quality publications but also for developing results data-bases that can be accessed by other parties. The project therefore aims at dissemination efforts both in high quality journals and relevant conferences, but also by inviting to work-shops based on data generated.
