Educating European researchers within medicine therapy optimisation (MTO) - The iMprOve project

Awarded: NOK 59,999

This international collaboration project iMprOve will train the future generation together in an interdisciplinary environment in newly developed patient care model which is aiming to change the fragmented healthcare culture, where different health professionals networks connect with each others to preventing suboptimal care and improving medication therapy optimisation and continuity of care through a clinical pharmacy network operate from community and primary care settings. Medication therapy optimisation is an area where diseases burden is experienced by European and global health systems and; of a societal and government interest to change, especially in the area of non-communicable long-term diseases, which is our main focus. The research will train of health professionals, health managers and health economists together to create an interdisciplinary research network which contribute to change the communication and collaboration culture between the different professions and also between these professions and the patients, moving from patient centred models where all professionals talking to the patient, but not to each other to holistic medication optimisation where all professionals talking together passing the same message to the patients. This will redefine professional boundaries to reduce loss or misinterpretation of information and messages from one setting to another (hospital, nursing homes, primary care and community) or from practitioner to another (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, health managers or economists). iMprOve will enhance the career prospects of the trained Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) who will be highly specialised, highly trained, and mobile. The training in a novel medication optimisation method, at academic, non-academic and industrial levels combined with experienced doctors, nurses, pharmacists, health managers or economists to confidently navigate at the interface of academic, clinical, industrial and private sector research.
