Mission Innovation Workshop 2019

Awarded: NOK 0.10 mill.

Mission Innovation (MI) is a global initiative of 23 countries and the EU to accelerate global clean energy innovation. Activities are organized under 8 Innovation Challenges, called global calls to action aimed at accelerating RD&D in technology areas where MI members believe increased international attention would make a significant impact in shared fight against climate change. Innovation Challenge#3 (Ch#3) is the Carbon Capture Innovation Challenge, and the goal is to enable near-zero CO2 emissions from power plants and carbon intensive industries. FME NCCS will organize and host a Ch#3 workshop in Trondheim on June 19-20, 2019, back-to back with the TCCS-10 conference (June 17-19). The purpose is to initiate concrete activities under Ch#3. That would include to take stock of what has been achieved so far and to identify possibilities for joint initiatives and new project opportunities. Target group is policymakers, scientists and innovators from the Ch#3-member countries. The workshop starts with a dinner in the evening of June 19, and the full-day workshop will follow on June 20. The suggested workshop agenda contains: Opening session, Project status, Breakout sessions, Presentation of ideas and initiatives, Discussion, Summary and next steps, and Closing. The Ch#3 Workshop is a highly international workshop encompassing the fields of energy, climate and environment. It is foremost a platform for further development of scientific cooperation with the aim of accelerating the dissemination and implementation of CCS technologies. The event is promoted primarily via the Ch#3 network, and also as a back-to-back-event to TCCS-10. The budget (150 participants) is NOK 835.000. So far, NOK 470,000 is secured. This comes from The RCN (kNOK 100), kNOK 320 from NCCS, and kNOK 50 from BEIS, UK. Provided this application is approved, the deficit is kNOK 265. The intention is to pursue national and international sponsors.
