Workshop on advanced methods for knowledge management, training and education for nuclear decommissioning

Awarded: NOK 54,256

Based on very positive feedback from the participants at our first two events focusing on nuclear decommissioning (www.ife.no/hrpdecom2017 and www.ife.no/digidecom2018) we are organizing DigiDecom2019 (www.ife.no/digidecom2019) in collaboration between the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), OECD Halden Reactor Project (OECD-HRP), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA). The previous two events, organized in 2017 and 2018, brought together more than 190 people (operators, regulators, scientists, consultants and contractors) from 25 countries. Feedback showed a satisfaction rate of over 90 per cent, with delegates finding the workshop very informative and useful, and enjoying a more interactive setting with group discussions and interactive demo sessions. The workshops rested in key learnings that are already put in use within the activities towards safe decommissioning of Norway’s historical nuclear facilities. The workshop is organized within the frame of the agreement between IFE and the IAEA designating IFE as the first International Collaborating Centre for digital transformation of the nuclear decommissioning practice. The agreement with the IAEA has two overarching aims: 1. Enhance the decommissioning activities related to the upcoming decommissioning of the legacy nuclear facilities in Norway, by establishing an international center of excellence for nuclear decommissioning in Halden. 2. Facilitate IFE`s and Norwegian participation and visibility in the international research and development related to digital transformation of nuclear decommissioning. Accordingly, the aim of the current event is contributing to reaching the above mentioned overall objectives.
