Logic Grouting

Alternative title: Logic Grouting

Awarded: NOK 5.0 mill.

Project Number:

309798

Project Period:

2020 - 2023

Funding received from:

Pre-Excavation grouting is an important process during tunnelling in rock under groundwater level. Grouting of fractures reduce water ingress and caretake the groundwater level during and after tunnelling. It also reduce complications related to water ingress during the excavation process. Pre-grouting is time-consuming, expensive and can result in a high consumption of cement. Logic Grouting have used experience gained from research to produce a software that guide the grouting process and thus reduce unnecessary usage of cement and time. The software is able to indicate hydraulic jacking of fractures during grouting and assist the grouting rig operators to optimize and reduce unnecessary usage of grout. The project has collected data from five Norwegian tunnelling projects and developed a new module in Bever Control's software for grouting rigs. The module has been sucessfully piloted in two tunnels under construction, Sollihøgda tunnel and Hestnes tunnel.

For Bever Control, the products developed trough Logic Grouting will increase the market value of existing products and increase the market for the AMV grouting rig. A successful automatic detection of jacking through computerised monitoring of pre-grouting will give the market a new powerful tool to optimise the grouting operation. The new grouting procedure is not directly marketable, but will be a tool for construction owners to instruct contractors, with the main intention of saving costs and environment and SINTEF will increase their activity within research-based consultancy within pre-grouting. The new procedure for pre-grouting contributes to reduced usage of building materials and reduction of the CO2 footprint due to less cement consumption, which is according to target 9.4 in development goal 9: retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes.
