Mobilising Norwegian participation in H2020 IMI activities

Awarded: NOK 1.0 mill.

The MobilNOR project's main objective is to increase Norwegian awareness and participation in Horizon Europe, EU4Health, and the Innovative Health Initiative, with a special focus on the Mobilise-D Consortium. The Mobilise-D Consortium is a Public-Private partnership funded by the European Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI). With the MobilNOR project, we want to share the Mobilise-D work with relevant Norwegian institutions and organizations and create opportunities for new partnerships and international collaborations. The overall aim of Mobilise-D is to develop and validate a sensor-algorithm solution to remotely measure and monitor changes in mobility in the real world using a low-cost digital device. This device produces digital mobility outcomes that can improve clinical diagnosis, practice, and precision medicine, inform therapeutic and industrial development, and meet stakeholder approval. MobilNOR is a collaborative initiative between the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and St. Olavs Hospital, with two-year finance from The Research Council of Norway. The Principal Investigator of MobilNOR is Professor Beatrix Vereijken, who is also a member of the Mobilise-D Project Executive. The MobilNOR network will bring together Norwegian stakeholders with knowledge and expertise about digital health and digital sensor technology by organizing different network activities. Planned activities are seminars, workshop demonstrations about applying the assessment technology in the clinic and healthcare, and a conference showcasing the Mobilise-D results and establishing international collaborations. By hosting these events, we want additional Norwegian academic and medical institutions to benefit from access to the Mobilise-D project and its results. This will give them first-hand knowledge about how to implement digital mobility assessment in the clinic, and it will give them an increased awareness of European funding such as Horizon Europe in general and IHI in particular as one of the world's largest funding schemes for medical research. We hope this will result in the development of joint research and novel digital technology solutions that will benefit patient assessment and follow-up in Norway. IHI, the former IMI, represents the world's largest funding scheme for medical research, but Norwegian participation is limited. Through MobilNOR, we aim to increase awareness and participation in IHI projects in general, and the IMI2 project "Connecting digital mobility assessment to clinical outcomes for regulatory and clinical endorsement - Mobilise-D" in particular. Mobilise-D aims to revolutionise assessment of mobility loss using digital technology to enhance clinical trials and improve clinical management. Interest shown in the Mobilise-D project so far from companies, researchers, and healthcare providers underscores the importance of having digital mobility outcomes recognized as primary endpoints in clinical trials and treatment to allow for better follow-up of patients. Through the participation of NTNU in key roles in Mobilise-D, the opportunity exists to demonstrate future possibilities for better healthcare practice in Norway and in Europe. MobilNOR will create a playground where Norwegian stakeholders and Mobilise-D partners can meet to raise awareness about IMI and results from the Mobilise-D project, thereby promoting international engagement of Norwegian partners working in research and the healthcare sector. We will share our experiences with the IMI funding scheme, as well as results and outcomes of Mobilise-D, with a broad array of relevant Norwegian stakeholders to drive Norwegian participation in IMI and stimulate the development of new ways of patient assessment and follow-up in Norway. MobilNOR will gather Norwegian stakeholders such as healthcare professionals, researchers and academics working in the fields of medicine, health sciences, movement science, and physiotherapy, patient organisations, SMEs and spinoffs developing heath technologies, and policy makers, with the aim to create opportunities for international collaboration, develop joint research and new technologies, and expand the Mobilise-D network by adding additional Norwegian stakeholders.
