Indra Navia develops systems for Air Traffic Management, and our equipment is installed at over 1400 airports worldwide. Our systems cover communication, tower solutions and landing systems. Over the past years, Indra Navia has developed satellite navigation-based landing systems, and we were the first to install a satellite-based landing system on Norwegian airports; SCAT-I. Based on this system, Indra Navia has developed an enhanced system, GBAS (Ground Based Augmentation System), that will secure aircraft landing in low visibility conditions, so-called Cat III. The GBAS ground station is developed according to ICAO?s (International Civil Aviation Organization) standard, a standard that was approved fall 2018. This standard sets extreme requirements on continuity and integrity, of which integrity is the most challenging. GBAS is in essence a differential GPS station, and the requirement on integrity implies that the ground station shall not send erroneous or misleading information to the aircraft. In addition, there is a tough requirement on availability. Extreme safety requirements imply extreme requirements to development processes and provision of evidence for safety. The project has developed and specified a development and verification process applicable to the development of software for these extremely critical applications. In order to develop and verify software on this level, a comprehensive set of tools is required. Some tools have been developed internally. Other tools are available from suppliers that have specialized in this market. The project has carried out a comprehensive tool evaluation assessing the available tools and has concluded on the right tool suite for this application. Additionally, the project has developed a verification platform, i.e. a technical platform on which the verification process can be executed. During the Covid-19 pandemic the aviation market has changed dramatically, and Indra has decided to reduce the effort on satellite based landing systems with the following statement: "Indra Navia has decided to put the GBAS GAST D certification program on hold until a collective industry initiative is established and funded due to: - Slow progress in the market - Delayed airborne equipage - Inadequate funding opportunities Also, the path forward is unclear conceptually, as the community is currently discussing the number of constellations and frequencies." We hope ramping up our GBAS program will be commercially viable in 2-3 years, and the project has provided important results which at that time will be fully exploited.

Prosjektet oppnådde flere positive virkninger for vår utvikling av neste generasjons satellittbaserte landingssystem før avslutning pga. markedsmessige hensyn: - Utvikling av systemkrav og systemdesign for Indra Navias Ground Based Augmentation System (GBAS).
