Modular Wind (working title)

Awarded: NOK 0.26 mill.

Project Number:

Project Period:

2019 - 2020

Organisation:

MOWI will reduce the LCOE for floating wind to 50 EURO per MWh by 2030. This is done by scaling up the design of a semi submersible platform with integrated wave power take off to 12 GW capacity and above. Capital expenditure will be reduced by standardization and by using modular design and construction principles, adopted from the ship building industry. Operational expenditure will be reduced by utilizing the added accessibility inherent in the platform design, and by implementing innovative logistics and innovative operational digital tools. The project is delivered by a consortium where experience in robust maritime design from the North Sea meets modular ship building craftsmanship in southern Europe. Central European preciseness contributes to efficient energy conversion and world leading competences in operational modelling ensures smooth and cost-effective logistic handling and operational excellence. The demonstrator is hosted by PLOCAN in Gran Canarias (ES). The project objectives are documented in a concluding Market Adaption Phase. The adaptation of the total integrated MOWI concept to the market, as well as the documentation of the LCOE reduction capability, will be subject to a dedicated WP named Offshore 2030. This WP models the lifetime cost of a full scale commercial project implementation, including operation over the expected lifetime and decommission costs. The WP is headed by DTU and integrates the innovations in the project as well as results from the demonstrator to be projected into the modelling of both a generic offshore project and actual real life project.
