GreenREF: Development of reference standards for the analysis of chlorinated paraffins (CPs)

Awarded: NOK 0.20 mill.

Chiron AS is developing cutting-edge reference materials and lab standards, enabling a paradigm shift in environmental toxicology. Chiron's current objective is to develop a platform for CP CRMs, mainly targeting short- and medium- chain CPs. This will empower analysts worldwide to monitor and control the distribution and use of CPs. Chiron is the sole project applicant and will take the lead of the entire project. Nonetheless, our R&D partners Free University of Amsterdam, Joint Research Centre (JRC, European Commission), Norwegian University for Science and Humanities (NTNU) and VU Amsterdam have been identified as potential collaborators for providing training and/or R&D facilities to enrich the diversity of the work plan. The biggest barrier for Chiron in establishing and participating in the SME Innovation Associate programme is our limited access to R&D expertise and facilities. We are a small R&D-centric team with limited in-house R&D facilities. Although this is our greatest challenge, we already have in place a successful partnership with multiple leading research institutions (e.g. Free University of Amsterdam, JRC), which have the cutting-edge facilities and CP-specific expertise required for this project. The Innovation Associate project is necessary for Chiron to initiate R&D activities within product development of Chiron technology. Currently, we do not possess in-house explicit expertise in CPs that are essential for this vision and therefore looking to recruit an Innovation Associate. Acquiring these skills is fundamental for Chiron to maintain competitive advantage over the coming years and will provide a major tailwind to the long-term innovation vision of our company - as we ambitiously target to become the world leading reference in CRMs.
