Deposition History of Microplastics (MPs) in a Svalbard Ice Core (RiS ID 11402)

This project will investigate the atmospheric deposition of microplastics (MPs) using a Svalbard ice core. By collaborating with international partners, this project will produce the first ever record of the temporal atmospheric deposition of MPs in the Arctic and in an ice core. The ice core record will provide trends in MP deposition over the last 30 years and describe the significance of the atmospheric deposition of MPs in the Arctic. Our new knowledge will be shared with the international scientific community, relevant monitoring bodies and, the local community and students in Longyearbyen.
