Nutrient cycle - linking the Atmosphere, Terrestrial, Marine and Glaciological flagship programmes in Ny-Ålesund

Awarded: NOK 0.49 mill.

The research and monitoring activities in Ny-Ålesund is organized in four broad and dynamic flagship programmes, with extensive cross-disciplinary and cross-flagship collaboration. In this proposal, we seek to develop the cross disciplinary and cross-flagship collaboration further by initiating a joint project on the nutrient cycle where we link the atmosphere, terrestrial, marine and glaciological domains together. We will make an overview of current knowledge, gaps and together develop hypothesis and research questions to be addressed with joint forces from all four flagship programs. We aim at high-end scientific peer-reviewed publication based on relevant field measurements, modelling and remote sensing data done by scientists from different disciplines from many institutions and countries with data from several locations in Svalbard. The project will arrange a series of activities, including an open workshop and a series of smaller dedicated writing workshops, that ultimately will end in scientific publications. This approach and common scientific goals will strengthen cross-flagship collaboration and networking in Ny-Ålesund, making the research community in Ny-Ålesund even stronger together.
