GreenCaps Solutions’ vision is to enable a climate neutral economy by reducing emissions from the production of food in greenhouses. In doing so we support the strategic vision of a clean planet for all, set by the European Commission in 2018.
The production of horticulture crops in greenhouses consume large volumes of CO2 for the photosynthesis. To obtain optimal growing conditions, the average CO2-concentration of the atmosphere is insufficient. Thus, growers produce CO2 from burning fossil fuels, or purchase gas from suppliers. Other indoor climate components such as humidity and temperature must also be regulated in order to maintain plant health and maximise yields. A challenge for the growers is that cost intensive and environmentally harmful resources are inevitably treated as consumables - with a “one-time only effect”.
We have built the breakthrough Environmental Control System (ECS) for vegetable farming, in line with the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. The ECS eliminates the need for generation, purchase and transport of CO2, turning greenhouse farming into a truly green industry. Key advantages with the ECS:
•Stripes CO2 from the surrounding atmosphere and stores it for a short-term period prior to release into the indoor climate in an optimized concentration.
•Increases or decreases actively the indoor temperature with a heat pump. All process heat is re-used. The increased energy efficiency enables powering greenhouses through e.g. a solar power generator, an exciting option for hot/dry regions, and/or regions with unreliable grid power.
•Ensures dehumidification of the air in the greenhouse and stores the water in a tank for later re-humidifying. This water-cycle makes the ECS especially valuable for hot/dry regions.
•Keeps all climate components optimized. This optimisation depends on the crop specific requirements, the ECS-sensors, the current climate and the weather forecast, and leads to an increased crop health and growth.
