INNOMAR - Fishing tools for sustainable fishing

Awarded: NOK 74,999

Project Number:

312997

Project Period:

2020 - 2020

Funding received from:

Innomar AS is driven by challenging traditional fisheries and marine operations developing new solutions for more effective, safer, and environment friendly methods. Innomar has developed a patent-pending trap-technology in which fish can swim relaxed until the catch is collected. This is the best way of catching fish for quality, price and fish welfare. The trap design and technology allow to reduce bycatch levels and it will include a sensor package for trap traceability that mitigate ghost fishing. The sensor system will send info to a cloud that can be monitored by the fisherman on digital platforms. This will reduce non-productive trips as the fisherman knows the catch is sufficient before he sails out for retrieving the catch. The project will be carried out by Innomar AS as project coordinator and lead participant. Innomar AS is a Norwegian R&D performing SME. The major barriers for Innomar going forward relate to: 1) resistance to change from the market; 2) lack of awareness about this concept; 3) regulatory barriers; 4) financial limitations; 5) concept not delivering the expected impacts regarding cost-effectiveness. This project will enable to: 1) market maturation steps such as final refinements of the core trap technology design; 2) optimization and integration of light attractant and sensor package for live monitoring; 3) development of a software platform and pilot demonstration and performance showcasing of industrial end-users. The EIC Accelerator provides a unique opportunity for Innomar to showcase the potential of its technology to raise customer awareness and overcome the remaining challenges associated with the market adoption of our product. The project is therefore key to accelerate the monetization of the technology and know-how available in-house. In sum, the completion of the project goals is intrinsically linked with Innomar AS strategy for successful market launch and commercialization of our innovative tools for sustainable fishing.
