Utvikling og testing av full-elektrisk og trekkbar ventilmodul for små isolerings- og doseringsventiler på havbunnsinstallasjoner.

Alternative title: Development and testing of an all-electric retrievable valve module for small isolation valves and dosing valves for subsea installations.

Awarded: NOK 5.3 mill.

Project Number:

313779

Application Type:

Project Period:

2020 - 2024

Organisation:

In subsea oil production, subsea trees are used to control and monitor the wells. The subsea trees control the production flow and inject various fluids to improve production and protect pipelines and other infrastructure. Today's subsea trees are operated by means of hydraulics and electrical signals which are transmitted in an umbilical cable from the nearest oil platform. The oil companies together with the system suppliers are now developing subsea trees that are operated "all-electric" without the use of hydraulics. This will save financial and environmental resources and increase performance. The realization of the next generation of all-electric subsea trees places new demands on sub-products, which the system suppliers do not produce themselves. This project is therefore developing a new type of small valves adapted to the all-electric subsea trees of the future. The valves are developed to enable the assembly of several valves in a compact electrically controlled valve module. This will result in significant cost savings in the production of the next generation of all-electric trees. The technology can also be used in combination with existing hydraulic subsea trees. The system definition and system design phase of the valve module is near complete in the present reporting period. 3D design of the complete valve module is ongoing and will be completed in the next period. The valve module flow schematic has been revised and adapted to better suit the current needs of the project partners. Detailed design, flow analysis, manufacturing of the first prototype dosing valve have been completed but were delayed due to challenges faced during manufacturing. Assembly and testing have been initiated and will be completed in the next period. Detailed design of the second prototype is ongoing. Detailed design and FEA of the isolation valve are complete. Manufacturing of valves for testing is ongoing. Due to delay at a vendor the assembly and testing of the prototype valve will be postponed to the next period. Design and qualification testing of core components in the actuation and control system has been performed at subcontractor. Detailed design of the electrical actuators, central control units, and battery modules to suit the prototype valves and the unitized valve module will not be started until the end of present period due to delayed prototype valve testing. Prototype testing of dosing valve and isolation valve is planned completed in next period. The same applies to the electrical actuators, central control units and battery modules. Function testing of valves and control system will be started towards end of next period. Hence, the overall project is somewhat delayed, primarily related to manufacturing of prototype components at vendors and sub-contractors during present period, due to factors such as increased activity in the industry and Covid-19 effects in the supply chains.
