Global Health Politics network support

Alternative title: Global helsepolitikk - nettverkstøtte

Awarded: NOK 1.5 mill.

The Global Health Politics research group brings together perspectives from social and medical anthropology, political science and international relations and development studies to examine the political dynamics and power structures that shape global health policy and practice. We seek to strengthen the scientific development and renewal of the research group. Since SAMEVAL in 2017, the group has deepened research on the political determinants of health, and has renewed its research portfolio with a thematic focus on the politics of pandemics, Universal Health Coverage, the role of civil society and international NGOs in global governance, and the rise of new technologies in global health. We aim to sustain and further renew the group's scientific activities and impact through support for visiting fellowships (including international researchers' visit to Oslo and overseas research visits for group members), networking events (including international conferences), support for proposal development (for applications to the ERC and other international funders) and PhD courses. The planned PhD courses will provide capacity building among young scholars nationally and internationally. Initiatives to ensure the long-term viability of the group through career development of junior staff are prioritized.

The Global Health Politics research group brings together perspectives from social and medical anthropology, political science and international relations and development studies to examine the political dynamics and power structures that shape global health policy and practice. In 2017, SAMEVAL's Social Anthropology panel concluded that "this relatively small research group has an impressive track record in highly relevant research. It is engaged in important international networks and has had significant societal impact." The network support from The Norwegian research council will help to strengthen the research group's scientific development and renewal.
