Distance Education in Knowledge Training

About learning system, self-organizing learning and adolescents out of work and training This research project is based on the foundations in Kunnskapstrening IT, where learning philosophy is the core and where the Theory of Transactional Distance, developed by Michael G. Moore (Professor Emeritus at Pennsylvania State University), is integrated in the learning system. Kunnskapstrening IT is organizing learning programs for adolescents (NEET) who are recruited by the Norwegian Unemployment Office (NAV)). In theapplied learning system, formal courses from Stockholm University are combined with informal training and work in companies(work-life) and implemented as online learning processes by Kunnskapstrening IT. The young NEET participants are recruited based on their competence and skills in online games. Motivation is the driving philosophy behind this choice as it is crucial in order to support these youth to develop independence for the future. The courses can range from 3D, 2D, programming, and Art-Design. Throughout Norway there is now a need for these competences and skills in both the private and public sectors, therefore, companies are networked into this learning system. Participants can connect to a future work life and learn from ?real life? challenges. In such a learning landscape, facilitation of the learning process affects the entire organisation in terms of leadership, staff, competence, technology, and budgeting. Learning philosophy and learning systems are closely connected to organizational leadership and budget. To smooth the path for self-organised learning, Kunnskapstrening IT is systematically using the Theory of Transactional Distance to meet the participants individually while gathered in large groups. - Primary objective: Research on how to implement the theory of Transactional Distance in Kunnskapstrening IT´s learning processes, what are the theoretical, organisational, and practical consequences?

Kunnskapstrening IT tilrettelegger læreprosesser for ungdom som er utenfor arbeid og utdanning, bedriften retter seg mot ungdom fra hele landet og jobber digitalt. I samarbeid med institusjonen for Data og Systemvitenskap ved Stockholm Universitet, tilrettelegges kortere kurs i spillutvikling. Ungdommene rekrutteres ut fra deres spesielle ferdigheter innen online spill og deres ferdigheter innen digitale områder som programmering, design, 2D og 3D. Alle deltakere får tilpasset et individuelt læringsløp og etterhvert settes de i kontakt med bedrifter som er i behov av deres tilegnede ferdigheter og kompetanse. Alt arbeid i Kunnskapstrening IT bygger på læringsfilosofien om at den som er i et læringsløp skal ha eierskap til egen læringsprosess. Dette betyr at samtidig som at det kjøres et felles utdanningsløp, så tilpasses læreprosessen individuelt for samtlige talenter. Dette grunnsynet og denne arbeidsmåten samsvarer med Theory of Transactional Distanse, som er utviklet av professor Michael G. Moore. Teorien er utviklet for arbeid innen "distance education", men handler først og fremst om avstanden i dialogen mellom lærer og elev. Michael G. Moore er Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Education ved Pennsylvania State University. Han er kjent for sin "Theory of Transactional Distance", dette er en teori som baserer seg på systemtenking i kunnskapsorganisasjoner og "distance education". Dette forskningsprosjektet vil se på hvordan teorien kan brukes for å jobbe systematisk med talentene i Kunnskapstrening IT og se på hvordan teorien kan brukes for å forsterke det personlig tilpassede læringsløpet. I tillegg vil det bli sett på hvilke implikasjoner dette har på Kunnskapstrening som læringssystem, der man ser på hvordan bruken av teorien påvirker tilrettelegging av organisasjonen/ bedriften som system.
