The overall objective of the SPG project is to research and develop our second-generation European lice infestation control system in salmon farms (SPG). Our main concept is to improve sea lice management in salmon breeding. Our system currently operates by using a structure of insulated conducting leads/netting that circulates the whole cage/site. The netting is connected to electronic control system that sends out electronic pulses in the seawater. The system stops mobile, infectious stages of sea lice from entering the fish cages and infecting the salmon. To further improve the efficiency of our system from SPG to SPG 2.0, we will replace key components and materials with other tools that will significantly improve the effectiveness of the system. Our project is well aligned to the EUROSTARS programme, which is designed to support research intensive SMEs with early stage high risk R&D-focused projects with a large potential market and a short route to market (< two years) which is a good characterisation of this project. In addition it has a environmental purpose and aimed at the development and commercialisation of the innovative SPG 2.0 solution. The consortium currently brings together two R&D-intensive SME from two different Eurostar countries, SFD AS (NO) and Tanso AB (SW). The consortium fulfils the international requirements of a EUROSTARS project, and the participation of multiple SMEs strongly geared to research and innovation in different technology spheres. Assembling such a strong partnership will ensure Europe wide coordination and networking as well as ensuring vital European wide dissemination and market up-take. This follows the scope of the EUROSTARS programme that is focused on the wide deployment and market up-take of the products and services supported through the scheme.
