This project will aim at improvement of hardness and long-term mechanical stability by the incorporation of graphene-based nanoparticles within the coating. The addition of these nanoparticles shall improve the mechanical stability, friction, anti-static properties behaviour and hardness of the coating. Moreover, the introduction of graphene increases the electrical and thermal conductivity of the layers – which are promising features for further improve the lamination process to higher resolution. with these coatings, TPU based plastic cards will be manufactured containing datapages or RFID inlays.
In addition, new methods to achieved rGO/GO with minimized flake size and improved chemical properties will also be available. Thus, the innovation of this project will lead to several new products and new or improved processes
Abalonyx will be in charge of finding optimal conditions for the production and scale-up of GO and rGO with appropriate properties needed for this project. This customized GO/rGO will be further utilized by IST and VTT.
The coating would give two different benefits and can be assessed a breakthrough. On the one hand the anti-friction option with high release effects and on the other hand the improved surface hardness and lifetime of the product. If you will focus only one item you normally will loose properties of the other one. Here, we will focus on both properties.
Nowadays, VTT offers those plate properties separately but not in combination. Thus, VTT will receive a considerable benefit in the combination of these properties. At the end of this project, VTT can establish a high requested service or plates with extreme positive behaviour.
Benefits of such coatings are for instance less cleaning cycles, which play a role in extra costs for cleaning service, time losses, extra man power, less replacement plates, longer lifetime, storage costs, administration works at least safe environmental resources, and shorter cycle runs with less scrap.
