Alternative title: ProMoTun - Productivity Monitoring of Tunnelling

Awarded: NOK 0.42 mill.

Project Number:

Project Period:

2020 - 2021

Funding received from:

ProMoTun (Productivity Monitoring in Tunnelling) aims to develop a unique data driven application for unified collection and utilisation of performance data from tunnel construction. The abundancy of data collection systems and user interfaces complicates an analysis of productivity in tunnelling activity. Valuable performance information is overseen due to the scattered and fragmented practice of today. The technology is however in place to realize the opportunity of developing and commercialising a data driven application. With a basis in research and research driven consultancy, the objective of ProMoTun with the current funding scheme is to set the starting point for product development. Aspect of access to data, ICT needs, industry preferences and interests in ProMoTun are investigated, and a concept technology formulation will be established. The objectives of ProMoTun on the long run is to give insights in the managing of the whole machinery park in addition to insights on individual machines, improve decision making, allow for more realistic project planning and be a start for the journey towards automated and autonomous operation. ProMoTun will improve the factual base on which clients and contractors discuss matters and thus lead to a reduction in disputes.

The outcomes of this project is that the foundation of the future project will be further set, and the most important conditions and risks will be investigated. Deliverables are: 1. An overview of intentions of contractors and clients to make data available for this project. 2. An overview of methods for data sharing by suppliers of productivity data. 3. A finished technology concept formulation based on the proposed solution and input from the tunnelling industry. On the Long term ProMoTun will be beneficial for society and industry in the following ways: 1. The monitoring of overall productivity of the tunnelling process and utilisation of data is beneficial in all phases of tunnelling projects for both clients and contractors. 2. Transparency and less disputes regarding construction time and costs. 3. Input for the rules of future automated and autonomous operation.
