Alloc AS will produce wall and flooring products with tailor-made surfaces and complementary properties, which are difficult to introduce in a traditional way. This includes light, strong and bio-based products. These aspects were central to the BioComp project, where a completely new and innovative biocomposite system for wall and flooring products was developed. The project included several tailor-made processes, from production of biocomposites and implementation on an industrial scale, to demonstration in wall and flooring prototypes. The project consists of a collaboration that covers the entire value chain, between Norske Skog Saugbrugs (wood fiber and biocomposite production), Plasto AS (automated injection moulding), Alloc AS (wall and flooring products), and RISE PFI (Research and development). Tailor-made, sustainable biocomposites were developed, i.e. material solutions based on sustainable polymers, wood fibers and sidestreams from industrial production. Close collaboration between the project partners has already led to the design and production of an injection moulded prototype. The biocomposite recipies were developed at RISE PFI and Norske Skog Saugbrugs, tested in injection moulding processes at Plasto AS and the functionality tested at Alloc AS in flooring products. Implementation in full-scale production and launch of the first commercial product is expected in Q1/2022. The close collaboration between the companies will also provide a basis for new business models and value creation for each individual company. Summary The BioComp project is developing a completely new and innovative biocomposite system. The process will give a clear advantage in the development of modern and innovative wall and flooring products. The development can be divided into 3 main areas; i) Production of strong and flexible biocomposites based on sustainable polymers, side streams and Norwegian wood fiber, ii) implementation of innovative and cost-effective injection moulding and iii) development of innovative, sustainable and user-friendly biocomposite system. In the first period, the partners in the BioComp project have developed and tested tailor-made, sustainable biocomposites, i.e. material solutions based on sustainable polymers, wood fibers and side streams from industrial production. The first injection moulded prototype has already been designed and manufactured. Implementation in full-scale production and launch of the first commercial product is expected in Q3/2022. The close collaboration between the companies will also provide a basis for new business models and value creation for each individual company.
