Investigation of connections between diet change and environmental pollutants in black-legged kittiwake in Kongsfjorden, RiS ID 11573

Awarded: NOK 36,288

In my master's thesis I will look at timeseries of levels of pollutants and timeseries of diet-samples from black-legged kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) from Kongsfjorden. I will investigate if the observed shift in diet for the kittiwakes, from Arctic to Atlantic species, has an affect on contaminant levels in their blood. The fieldwork I will take part in during this summer in Kongsfjorden will give me insight in the methods used to obtain these dataseries. We will collect diet-samples from the birds as well as blood samples. These data will contribute to the existing timeseries.
