Coastal erosion on the Brøgger peninsula, Svalbard; RiS ID 11582

Awarded: NOK 78,999

Costal erosion is highly affected by sea ice duration and the thermal regime in the coastal rock walls. With the retreat of sea ice and a warming of permafrost temperatures, coastal erosion is likely to change. This is also expected for the coastal line of Brøgger peninsula, Svalbard. In this project, the applicant will investigate the thermal regime of the rock walls along the shoreline of Brøgger peninsula and their coastal erosion. Background temperature data is provided by the university of Oslo, while dGPS surveys and laserscans will be conducted during field season 2021.
