E-INFRA 2020 - A National e-infrastructure for Science

UNINETT Sigma2 AS (Sigma2) has a strategic responsibility for and manages the national e-infrastructure for large-scale data- and computational science in Norway. In addition, Sigma2 coordinates Norway's participation in international collaborations on e-infrastructure. Sigma2 is mandated to provide services for high-performance computing and data storage to individuals and groups involved in research and education at all Norwegian universities and colleges, and other publicly funded organizations and projects. The overall scope of this project is to secure sufficient funding for computing and storage resources for the national e-Infrastructure for the investment period 2023 - 2025. The project represents phase 4 of the planned renewal and expansion of the national e-infrastructure which started with phase 1 in 2016 funded by the project "E-INFRA 2014 - a national e-infrastructure for science". The project will ensure that national research communities have access to state-of-the-art e-infrastructure for science.

The overall scope of this project is to secure sufficient funding for investments in computing and storage resources for the national e-Infrastructure for the investment period 2023 - 2025. The project represents phase 4 of the planned renewal and expansion of the national e-infrastructure which started with phase 1 in 2016 funded by the project "E-INFRA 2014 - a national e-infrastructure for science". The project will ensure that national research communities have access to state-of-the-art e-infrastructure for science. Main project deliveries are: - Expansion of existing HPC-Machines, mainly on the GPU side, due to increased usage and demand - Expansion of the storage system NIRD 2020 - Expansion of the Service Platform, both hardware and services - Expansion of the TSD platform (Services for Sensitive Data) - Access to international facilities such as EuroHPC LUMI and Prace
