Norway - East Asia Research Training and Education in Advanced MaterialS: program focusing on light-matter interactions

The prime objective of the present project is to develop world-class research and education in Norway, making a contribution into fostering high level talents having sufficient social competence and taking the responsibility for sustainable development of the future. Our focus group is the MSc and PhD students at the Physics and Material Science Programs from Norway and several highly ranked universities in China, Japan, and South Korea. As such, our target group of students is already at relatively advanced stage of the studies but have to learn how to deal with challenges. Thus, the prime methodological idea is to positively re-program students? motivation and lowering students' perception barriers for complexities in natural sciences; this is reached by showing attractive role models and doing research beyond the state of the art in their own ongoing studies. The international cooperation provides a unique opportunity for setting students in the center of excellent environment comprising world-class teams otherwise not available at the sites of the individual universities or even countries. As a result, we aim to deliver global scientific impact from research training students and advances in methodology of high education in material science.

In accordance with the INTPART objective to develop world-class research and education in Norway, we propose to make a contribution into fostering high level talents having sufficient social competence and taking the responsibility for sustainable development of the future. Our focus group is the MSc and PhD students at the Physics and Material Science Programs from Norway (in the first place from the UiO) and several highly ranked universities in China, Japan, and South Korea. As such our target group is already at relatively advanced stage of the studies but have to learn how to deal with challenges. Thus, the prime methodological idea is to positevly re-program students’ motivation and lowering students' perception barriers for complexities in natural sciences; this is reached by showing attractive role models and doing research beyond the state of the art in their own ongoing studies. The international cooperation provides a unique opportunity for setting students in the center of excellent environment comprising world-class teams otherwise not available at the sites of the individual universities or even countries. Having these generic ideas in mind, we focus the present program on the fundamentals and applications of the light-matter interactions; as such the present program is also used as a support action for several ongoing projects, e.g. the Research Centre for Sustainable Solar Cell Technology - SUSOLTECH and the Frontier Research Group on Functionalizing Defects in Advanced Semiconductors – FUNDAMENT. As a result, we aim to deliver global scientific impact from research training students and advances in methodology of high education in material science. Importantly, the initial and well documented collaboration within the partners of the consortium enhances the feasibility of our success.
