Digital transformation of the human-centred manufacturing shopfloor in Norway

Awarded: NOK 1.0 mill.

The project "Digital transformation of the human-centered manufacturing shopflor in Norway, hereinafter referred to as HUMAN-NOR, aimed to spread knowledge about how to improve productivity and reduce errors by using Augmented Reality (AR) tools developed in the H2020 project "HUman-Manufacturing" (HUMAN). The specific tool developed in HUMAN was further developed into a product for a spin-off company called KIT-AR based in London. HUMAN-NOR was to promote the results of HUMAN and KIT-AR's tools through various communication tools (written and digital), awareness webinars, engagement seminars, workshops and finally based on this funnel, the goal was to generate follow-up projects in the form of IPN proposals. HUMAN-NOR started in 2020 just before COVID, which made it challenging to have direct contact with companies. Blog and LinkedIn were established and followed up through the project. There were 2 seminars, 8 webinars, and 2 workshops. An application for AR use in energy conservation was submitted. Following the project, SINTEF has a mobile lab for demonstrations of AR (and VR.)

This project will perform dissemination and exploitation activities to facilitate the adoption of the results of the Horizon 2020 project HUman MANufacturing workplace (HUMAN) in the Norwegian industry and research communities, and will build a strong community interested in digital enhancement of human centred manufacturing environments. HUMAN project aimed to transform workplaces where automation and human workers operate in harmony, to improve the factory productivity, quality and performance. HUMAN developed and utilized human-centred automation approaches that enable reasoning of the appropriate level of automation, incorporating the physical and cognitive characteristics of the workers into automation, and actively monitoring and adapting the workplace to cognitive capabilities and tacit knowledge of the workers. The HUMANNOR project will pursue the dissemination activities categorized in the following stages: Stage 1 – Set up and Communication activities Stage 2 – Awareness Webinars with a wide audience Stage 3: Engagement Seminars with industrial and research organizations Stage 4 - Dedicated Workshops with individual companies Stage 5 - Digital transformation plan and follow-up projects with individual companies
