Digital sea ice physics: proof of concept

The project aims to develop a novel framework of computational models to predict sea ice properties. Its key paradigm "image and compute" is based on X-ray tomographic imaging and digitizing of the sea ice pore space, followed by numerical computation of its physical properties. Application to a unique set of ice cores from the (just finished) MOSAiC expedition, is proposed to improve the representation of sea ice in models (operational, regional, climate).
