Stipendiatstilling 6 SINTEF (2021-2023)

Awarded: NOK 4.2 mill.

Title: Technology impacts on the Sustainable Development Goals in an integrated perspective Nowadays, the topic of sustainable development is on the forefront of the agenda of both society, industry, and research institutes. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiated by the UN is a framework that has often been used to shed light on this matter. These SDGs focus on three main areas: environmental, social, and economical and together form 17 interconnected goals. Currently, when this framework is used by businesses, researchers, or policy makers the tendency is to only focus on a limited number of these SDGs and usually the ones that are closest related to the business operations, technology, or policy. This research will take a broader look on the SDG framework and uses the philosophy that actual sustainable development takes place when SDGs are impacted that are not directly at the core of the technology. By doing so, this research tries to map the linkages of a health technology to the entire SDG framework. The first paper will even take a step further and will map the interlinkages between SDG targets from the context of Point of Care microfluidic devices. The work being performed is in close cooperation with research scientists at SINTEF Industry, working on SDG impact assesment.
