Using the network as a reliable backbone for distributed real-time systems. Industrial automation and control systems (IACS) are more interconnected now than ever before. This requires a scalable, fast and deterministic network medium. Common Off the shelf (COTS) network hardware are currently undergoing a transition where traffic can be given real-time guarantees and this can be used to connect systems and sensors on an unprecedented scale.

Doktorgradsarbeidet har vært på et grunnleggende nivå innen bruk av TSN for tidskritisk sanntidskommunikasjon. Arbeidet har brakt forskningsfronten innen området videre gjennom publisering i anerkjente tidsskrift og konferanser, og har også resultert i åpen kildekode for bruk i tidskritiske sanntidssystemer for industriell og robotisk bruk.
