There is great interest in seeking knowledge about being good parents. Despite the fact that being a parent is something that humanity has dealt with for millennia, many parents feel uncertain about what is the most appropriate way to relate to children's needs and reactions. Today, it is common to seek advice and inspiration through discussion forums, web portals, books and more. The municipalities see this as an important task and offer parenting courses as part of their low-threshold services. How do parents experience receiving the guidance that these courses provide? And how do they experience that the guidance affects the parental role and relationship to their own children? To what extent should a municipality offer such parenting courses? These are questions this study seeks into. In many municipalities, parenting courses are offered to all parents as a low-threshold offer. Nevertheless, little research has been done on the effect and experience of such an offer. The research on parental guidance has dealt with parents who already have greater challenges with the parental role. In this study, parenting courses are offered to all parents with 3 year olds in a municipality. This study seek into how these parents experience parenting courses with a focus on attachment theory. Attachment-based parenting courses are a relatively new offer in the diversity of parenting courses offered. These courses focus on children's basic needs and the goal is to promote security in the child. For parents, the goal is increased awareness of both themselves and the child, as well as an increased understanding of what they are already doing that promotes the child's security. Secure attachment is a factor that is seen as an important element for children's well-being and health.
