14% of the world's population suffers from migraines, the most common neurological disorder in the world. In Norway, 2 million working days are lost annually due to migraines. Migraines reduce the quality of life and limit participation in work and social life. There is a great need for treatments without side effects, which are inexpensive and more available than current alternatives, which mainly consist of medications associated with limited effect and side effects. CEREBRI is a preventive treatment for migraines, self-assisted by the patient to be used at home. CEREBRI is based on biofeedback. Using two wireless sensors and a treatment program on a smartphone, patients can perform regular biofeedback training. This has the potential to reduce migraines by up to 50%. Home-based treatment has potential cost savings of ~ 60% compared to traditional biofeedback that uses stationary equipment and a therapist who provides instructions. In the Verification Project, the technology of CEREBRI has been further developed into a new version to be used in clinical studies on patients. The wireless sensors measure heart variability, surface temperature and muscle tension in the neck. The sensors communicate wirelessly with a mobile application that provides instructions in biofeedback training. CEREBRI has been developed in accordance with regulations for medical devices that require documentation and risk analyzes. The project has also included the implementation of information security, including the GDPR, and preparations for conducting the clinical study.
