STUD: OmniMod AS - Commercialization of autonomous solutions within E-commerce, logistics, intralogistics and distribution

Alternative title: STUD: OmniMod AS - Kommersialisering av autonome løsninger innen E-handel, logistikk, intralogistikk og distribusjon.

Awarded: NOK 1.00 mill.

During the FornyStudent project, OmniMod has combined market research with the development of a prototype of the first hardware module and associated software that will be able to perform many different functionalities, such as sorting, sequencing and consolidating packages at the warehouse and distribution center. They have developed a more industrialized version of a modular technology that should be able to move packages autonomously in two dimensions. Under this, functionalities such as autonomous sorting and sequencing of packages have been developed. The technology includes a solution for scanning and registering packages. Unique ways have been researched to use AI to optimize real-time route planning and control packages on a grid to enable sorting and sequencing. Especially for this project is that the company employed industrial software expertise. These were necessary resources enabled by the STUD: ENT project and were crucial to further developing the company. The technical innovations were tested and verified in a pilot project with a leading player in the industry and have enabled us to start commercial testing to a greater extent. The project is generally considered a success as our R&D activities ended up with a technology that can be used in a commercial setting. However, there are still some improvements and technical innovations before we have defined our final product. As of October 2022, OmniMod is stationed at NTNU Gløshaugen (Gründerbrakka) and Fornebu (Technopolis). The company has scaled up its operations during and after the project, secured further funding, and secured multiple full-time and part-time employees. The participants in the company are primarily drawn from research-related environments at NTNU. During the project period, the company has collaborated with various subject areas at NTNU, which has been necessary for rapid and robust development.
