Today's offer of knitting patterns often limits the customer to a specific design and yarn. We want to facilitate creativity and give customers the opportunity to make more environmentally friendly material choices. Thus, we have developed Dreamknit, an innovative web application where knitters can buy knitting patterns for garments they have designed themselves. Today, recipes are made with spreadsheets, calculators, pen and paper. Since knitting is basically mathematics, we have been able to combine it with automatic calculations. Through coding, thorough testing and feedback from knitters, we have developed an algorithm that can create thousands of different design combinations. In this way, knitters can be more creative, selective and thus environmentally friendly. Knitting was previously reserved for older women, but in recent years the younger generation has opened their eyes to creating their own everyday garments. In 2016 (SIFO, 2016), almost half of Norwegian women over the age of 18 were knitters. In the last year and a half, this number has risen rapidly, and even more people have experienced the joy of knitting garments themselves. With a creative leeway and greater freedom of choice through Dreamknit, we hope to inspire people to contribute to more "slow fashion" as a counterweight to today's overconsumption.
