Circular use of wood - wood must be reused again and again If our society is to succeed in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement, it is expected that the need for environmentally friendly resources will be significantly greater. To increase the use of wood in construction, short-distance raw materials are needed. Recycled wood will be a crucial input factor via novel reuse and material recycling solutions. Increased innovation and value creation must go hand in hand to take full advantage of the opportunities wood has to offer. SirkTRE will lift the timber industry and the construction industry towards a holistic circular, green shift. In order to establish a holistic circular value chain for wood, sirkTRE will carry out a number of innovation projects. In addition, barriers will be overcome by developing and adapting standards, specific reuse solutions will be showcased in construction projects, local value chains will be established, and new digital technology will be used. This will provide new opportunities for businesses, products and district employment, and increased competitiveness of the participating companies. Together, these companies will achieve a pace of change that would not have been possible if standing alone. SirkTRE will contribute to a tenfold increase in value creation rather than burning the waste wood in question. As an integral part of sirkTRE, circWOOD will conduct research on the reuse of recycled wood in construction projects, and recycled wood as a raw material in today's timber industry. Research results, especially related to resource access and material flows, will be linked to facilitating a circular flow of goods, handling, environmental impact, design and production of wood in, and towards, relevant markets in Norway and abroad. CircWOOD will analyze the sustainability and environmental footprint of the wood value chain based on strategies and new technologies that contribute to circularity.

Innovasjonsprosjekter gjennomføres, barrierer brytes ned (nye standarder), konkrete ombruksløsninger vises i byggeprosjekter, lokale verdikjeder etableres og ny digital teknologi tas i bruk.
