LINCCS – Norwegian innovation propelling large scale CCS LINCCS will position Norway at the forefront of the energy transition by dramatically reducing the cost of CO2 capture and storage (CCS). Almost all paths to net-zero by 2050 include CCS. This means a CO2-capture and storage industry is expected to rise in Europe. With its long-standing expertise on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and decades of CCS experience, Norway is well-placed to lead this effort while generating exports and contributing to resolving the climate crisis. The LINCCS project focuses on taking rapid action to commercially deploy CCS at scale while providing the capacity for Norway to meet its obligations under the Paris agreement. Specifically, LINCCS aims to develop and commercialize five innovations that will connect CO2 capture with storage: 1. Unmanned CO2 capture to enable cheaper capture technology 2. A ship engine with an integrated CO2 capture unit 3. A digital tool to improve the transport and logistics of CCS 4. A digital tool to help repurpose existing O&G infrastructure for CO2 storage 5. A full-scale system for cost-effective CO2 injection and storage The unique aspect of LINCCS is the united and integrated perspective across the entire value chain that will reduce costs and enable the fast commercialization of large-scale CCS. Drawing on broad industrial support, LINCCS will allow the creation of green jobs in Norway, while providing an indispensable contribution towards mitigating global warming. LINCCS is a high-impact project aiming to reduce carbon emissions by over 100 million tonnes per year, create 1,000 new jobs, generate an annual export potential of an estimated NOK 5 billion by 2030, and propel Norway to the forefront of the fight against global warming.

LINCCS is an ambitious undertaking with broad industrial support that will curtail carbon emissions by over 100 million tonnes per year, generate over 8 BNOK/year, employment for over 1000 people and an export potential estimated at around 5 BNOK per year by 2030. It will do so by accelerating the deployment of innovative CCS technologies at scale, connecting the missing links between capital and opportunities, and propelling Norway at the forefront of the fight against climate change by linking large scale, cost-effective, permanent offshore storage across the value chain while leveraging one of its major competitive strengths: the competencies developed on the NCS. LINCCS will take the Northern Lights further by providing the platform to foster innovation and value creation linking the CCS value chain, at a much faster pace than would be possible by individual actors. Specifically, LINCCS will support carbon capture solutions for the maritime sector and enable repurposing existing offshore installations, competencies, and technologies to new, sustainable business opportunities in line with the EU taxonomy . Innovative technologies and business models for repurposing existing assets over a longer time span, such as algae farming, and other Carbon Dioxide Removal technologies are explored in the attached KSP.
