KVAL: reMIND - Preparing the commercial, legal and technical landscape for a language-agnostic automated verbal memory assessment platform.

Alternative title: reMIND: Helse gjenfortalt

Awarded: NOK 0.50 mill.

reMIND: Health retold Our ability to retell a story says a lot about how good our memory is. This project evaluated the legal, technical and market issues related to the development of a memory assessment service - reMIND - that assays memory via speech. This approach makes use of the latest advances in technology such as speech recognition, high quality audio, machine learning and smart devices to deliver an assessment service - either within the clinic or remotely - that analyses story retelling. The ability to remember stories is an important component of health checks for a variety of conditions including dementia, traumatic brain injury, and diverse neurological and psychiatric conditions. The potential commercial markets range from research settings to clinical and medical prognostic services.

Technological advances are transforming how health information is generated, and reMIND is part of the revolution that will increase the societal value of monitoring spoken communication consensually through digital channels. The primary societal benefit will be the provision of easier, quicker, lower-cost and remote access to verbal memory testing and associated cognitive assessments. Importantly, in response to the recent necessity of teleneuropsychology - which was not common practice before the covid19 pandemic - unlike commercially available tests that are not standardized for remote delivery, reMIND is specifically designed to assess verbal memory remotely. reMIND will be commercialized through the formation of a startup dedicated to the installation, testing, operation and maintenance of verbal memory assessment platforms.
