The Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) has a long-standing tradition of arranging annual shipping conferences. The 2018 and 2019 conferences, sponsored in part by RCN, was a success with around 180 attendees and high-level speakers such as the Norwegian minister of industry and the CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association. The planned conference for 2020 unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the Corona situation. The 2021 version is planned as a physical full-day conference with a wide selection of speakers from research institutions, politics, startups and shipping companies (see attached draft conference programme). The conference takes place in Bergen on Novembe 1 and is divided into four main themes: political and macro uncertainty, shipping decarbonization, change management and digital innovation in shipping.
LeaderSHIP 2021 is organized by the Norwegian School of Economics in collaboration with network organizations Bergen Shipowners' Association and Maritime Bergen. The conference targets attendees from regional and national shipping companies, academics and researchers from R&D institutions with maritime activities, policymakers and representatives of shipping-related startups.
The event connects key people involved in these research areas, strengthening personal networks and creating opportunities for future collaboration. It also provides a platform for frank discussion and exchange of ideas for collaborative research between academia, startups and incumbent shipping industry players. Finally, it is an opportunity to present ongoing MAROFF/HAV-funded NHH research and new project results to the Norwegian maritime industry and the wider public as detailed in the project description.
