FISK 4.0 – Industrialisering av den marine verdikjeden

Alternative title: FISH 4.0- Industrialization of the marine value chain

Awarded: NOK 28.0 mill.

FISH 4.0 aims to contribute to value creation and adaptation within the marine and maritime industries in Møre og Romsdal through cross-sectorial collaboration, knowledge development and capacity building. The Norwegian fishing fleet is facing both national and international demands and expectations for sustainable future growth and development in line with the industrial green shift. To achieve this, new knowledge and technology are required for developing new automated systems for handling large volumes of raw material whilst also enhancing quality. This project is led by Møreforsking, in collaboration with NTNU, Møre and Romsdal County administration, and key players like Lerøy Havfisk, Nordic Wildfish,, Optimar, Teknotherm, Skipsteknisk as well as the grouping «Norwegian Frozen at Sea». Further, the clusters NCE iKuben, NCE Blue Legasea, and GCE Blue Maritime are important partners to ensure interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration in the project. The project implements Industry 4.0, a term reflecting the fourth industrial revolution wherein integration, digitalization, and efficient material flow (lean) are key concepts. FISH 4.0 focuses on the interaction between biological and technological expertise to improve production and processes by use of automation and sensor technology. The overarching goal of the project is to foster collaboration between industries and national/international expertise. Dialogue and the exchange of knowledge are crucial for ensuring a sustainable and competitive industry in the future. Consequently, the project prioritizes the establishment of interdisciplinary forums through seminars, workshops, and student competitions. Events in collaboration with student associations have also been organized, urging students and industry leaders to think creatively about the future. Additionally, two PhD candidates have started their projects related to key challenges addressed in the focus areas. A highlight of the year was a study trip aboard a deep-sea trawler. Researchers, students, and industry partners got a firsthand look at live production conditions, gaining insights into the potential of fishing vessels as automated catch platforms. In 2023, several case studies have been conducted based on issues identified by the project consortium. The "expanded" project group, including over 200 member companies from the industry clusters and the "Norwegian Frozen at Sea" group, are actively contributing. Their inputs are important in shaping the forthcoming activities in the project.
