INDIGO - Styrket regionalt industrielt innovasjonssystem for grønn omstilling

INDIGO – Strengthened regional industrial innovation system for the green transition, has a partnership consisting of Nord University (project owner and leader), SINTEF Helgeland, Nordland Research Institute, Rana Gruber, Nexans Norway, Alcoa Norway, Mo Industripark AS and Kunnskapsparken Helgeland. Since the project was formally established on February 1st, much efforts has been made in establishing formal and legal agreements and guidelines for the partnership and for the project’s progress. A startup meeting with the project leader and R&D partners was arranged soon after the project was established. There has been several meetings between the project leader and work package leaders, and within and across work packages. A full partnership startup meeting was arranged in June. In order to contribute to interdisciplinarity and partnership collaboration across the three work packages, four operative and thematic working groups are established; 1) education, 2) R&D infrastructure, 3) strategy and 4) research. The working groups are led by one designated person, they shall include personnel from each partner, and it must be well coordinated with work package leaders. All working groups have had startup meetings in 2022, and activities are underway. The decision to establish interdisciplinary working groups was made through early meetings between project leader and work package leaders. A steering committee is established, consisting of one representative from each partner in addition to one representative from Nordland County Municipality and one observer from the Norwegian Research Council. The first steering committee meeting was held in October. In addition to constituting the committee and a presentation from the project leader, the committee's mandate and 2022 progress plan was approved. The members and leader of the committee was elected for two years. The next meeting is set to January 6th. The project leader has established a set of instructions/manuals for the project’s key personnel, such as work package and working group leaders, and for dissemination/publishing and data collection. The instructions are made available to the partnership through shared folders. The project will develop a communication strategy in 2023, to increase awareness and knowledge about the project. So far the project has been presented at two public arenas. Results from year one are closely related to the goals set in the application. The 2023 progress plan is currently being developed and will be presented for the steering committee in January. In 2023 the project will build upon the foundations set in 2022, and move into a more operative phase.

INDIGO skal øke evnen for grønn innovasjon og omstilling og utvikle nye verdikjeder i mineral-, prosess-, energi- og vareproduserende industri på Helgeland (heretter industri). Gitt Helgelands sentrale rolle innen disse industriene, er regionen sentral for å oppnå EUs Grønne Vekststrategi, FNs bærekraftsmål, målet om vekst i alle regioner og Nordland Fylkeskommunes strategi for smart spesialisering (S3). Imidlertid mangler det regionale innovasjonssystemet på Helgeland tilstrekkelig tilgang til udanning og FoU, noe INDIGO skal løse gjennom å bygge et sterkt regionalt innovasjonssystem der grønn innovasjon og omstilling drives fram av nye og etablerte bedrifter og FoU- og utdanningsinstitusjoner i regionen. EU, og den internasjonale energiindustriens nye strategi for grønn vekst og null netto utslipp i 2050 vil innebære internasjonale reguleringer der et lavt CO2-avtrykk vil gi fremtidige konkurransefortrinn på det internasjonale markedet innenfor energibærere, transport og metaller. Dette skaper en gunstig situasjon for industriregionen Helgeland, som har særlig potensial for grønn vekst gjennom tilgang til naturressurser, grønn energi, høy erfaringsbasert kompetanse og produktivitet. Det siste tiåret har private investeringer for innovasjon i Nord-Norge vokst raskere enn landsgjennomsnittet. Nordland Fylkeskommunes S3 strategi og SIVA har vært med på denne utviklingen, blant annet gjennom etableringen av industriklyngen Arctic Cluster Team (ACT). For å møte disse mulighetene er INDIGO etablert av industriaktører, Kunnskapsparken Helgeland, ACT, og forskningspartnerne; Senter for Industriell Forretningsutvikling ved Nord universitet, SINTEF Helgeland og Nordlandsforskning, med mål om: Å gi næringslivet økt tilgang på relevant kunnskap og forskning som styrker grønn innovasjon og omstilling i mineral-, prosess- og vareproduserende industri på Helgeland, samt bygge på etablerte innovasjonsarenaer som ACT, og utvikle relasjoner for framtidig kunnskapsutvikling.
