Turning the wastewater pitfall source of antimicrobial resistance and antibiotics into a re-constituted One Health benefit

Awarded: NOK 0.20 mill.

The purpose of the AMR-1 project is to monitor and clean the wastewater from main hospitals in Norway and Sweden. The Oslo University Hospital represents a major source of bacteria and other microbes carrying AMR determinants. In addition, a lot of drugs including antibiotics are emitted into the wastewater. Additionally, many of the bacteria secrete exo-toxins. Our aim is to define the amounts of selected AMR, antibiotics and toxins released into the OUS wastewater and install devices with a potential to clean the water with regard to AMR, antibiotics and toxins. Original wastewater will be compared to treated water utilizing the BlueTAP method developed by Blueshift AS.
