HySchool ? “Norwegian Research School on Hydrogen and Hydrogen-based Fuels” is a joint initiative from seven Norwegian universities: University of Bergen (UiB), University of Oslo (UiO), University of Tromsø (UiT), University of Stavanger (UiS), University of South-East Norway (USN), Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The vision for HySchool is to create a thematically oriented research school that will enhance the quality and increase the relevance for the labour market of Norwegian doctoral education on hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels. To this end, the thematic areas in the research school cover the entire value chain for hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels, as well as societal aspects and safety. Doctoral candidates from all universities and university colleges in Norway can be admitted, provided the main topics of the PhD projects are within the range of topical areas for the research school. Since the PhD projects of the admitted candidates will define the scope of the activities, HySchool entails a flexible concept where the development of the activities over time will reflect the state-of-the-art in the respective disciplines. Widespread use of hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels in society represents a unique opportunity for Norway as a leading maritime nation and net exporter of energy commodities. Norwegian companies are leading suppliers of technologies and services for energy systems, and the knowledge, competence, skills and networks the PhD students develop in HySchool will enhance the competitiveness of trade and industry, position the academic partners for national and international collaborative research projects, and accelerate the transition to a low-emission society. HySchool will contribute to the global energy transition by enhancing the quality of Norwegian doctoral training on the use of hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels as energy carriers.

HySchool is a joint initiative from seven Norwegian universities, in cooperation with national and international partners and participants from academia, research institutes and industry. The vision is to create a thematically oriented research school that will enhance the quality and increase the relevance for the labour market of Norwegian doctoral education on hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels. HySchool represents a unique opportunity to establish a meeting place for PhD candidates and supervisors from different institutions and disciplines in a field that is expected to play a crucial role for Norway as a leading maritime nation and net exporter of energy commodities. Annual seminars will give participants from academia and the labour market the opportunity to learn from leading international researchers in the field, and to be updated on the activities and results of the doctoral candidates affiliated with the research school. The involvement of representatives from industry and authorities in the board, as well as activities such as annual seminars, webinars and excursions, will secure high relevance for the labour market. HySchool will play an active role in the coordination of study programmes at PhD level in the academic institutions and encourage mobility of researchers among partners in the consortium as well as international cooperation partners. The academic partners will establish interdisciplinary and application-oriented courses, and thereby support and facilitate the education of personnel with qualifications that are in high demand in the labour market.
