ZEG Power has performed a range of R&D projects targeted towards technology development, solving critical problems and to mature the design of the first industrially scaled ZEG plant, the ZEG H1. The design of this plant is thus to a large extent the result of significant support from amongst others the Research Council of Norway, and the realisation of this plant is granted support from Enova. In order to continue the development of larger sized ZEG plants, more R&D work is needed targeted towards more compact plant design, more advanced materials showing improved lifetime, followed by a reduction in capital and operational expenses for the larger sized plants. Furthermore, the LargeZEG project will include activities to develop system solutions for offshore and marine applications, to be able to deliver clean power for oil & gas platforms and in other maritime settings. LargeZEG is thus a highly important project for ZEG Power and in line with the company's strategy to offer the market larger plants at continuously improved performance and at lower capital and operational expenses. ZEG is executing this project together with the R&D partners IFE, UiO and Sintef, as well as the industrial partners H2 Production, Höegh LNG, SLB (Schlumberger), Sevan SSP and Siemens Energy.

It is well recognised that the use of hydrogen for long-haul, heavy-duty land and marine propulsion, as well as for industry purposes and power production will have an essential and increasing role in the transition to a green energy value chain and green economy. In addition, the oil and gas sector already consume significant and increasing quantities of hydrogen in e.g. refinery operations and is expected to rely on clean hydrogen in the near future. ZEG Power can provide compact solutions for clean hydrogen and power production by the ZEG ICC (TM) technology, with integrated carbon capture. By scaling up the technology, and by developing solutions also for offshore applications through leveraging existing industry expertise within platform design, offshore engineering, and hydrogen turbines, a compact and emission free solution for stable and secure power to oil and gas platforms operating on the NCS can be developed in addition to being highly relevant for other marine and land-based applications in the medium to large-scale segment. In this project, it is proposed to address these aspects by: • Developing the ZEG process for operation at pressure up to at least 15 barg • Developing solutions for the core ZEG ICC (TM) technology operating on a moving and/or shaking foundation • Developing a new catalytic material, primarily as a bi-functional Combined Sorbent-Catalyst Material (CSCM) These three innovations will be key to support and enable the upscale and implementation of ZEG Power’s innovative hydrogen technology for medium to large scale applications, onshore and offshore, in the size range 10-50 tonnes of H2 daily production rate. The project will be executed by ZEG Power as project owner in cooperation with the industrial partners Höegh LNG, H2 Production (CCB), SLB (Schlumberger), Sevan and Siemens Energy. IFE and UiO will support the project by performing key research activities on the materials development and testing.
