The need for low-cost biofuels and bio-products from sustainable renewable resources is rapidly increasing. Higher chain alcohols (C5–C8) are vital because they are important as chemical feedstock as well as efficient biofuels. Higher chain alcohols are not known to accumulate in substantial amounts in any known microorganism. Therefore, metabolic and enzymatic engineering efforts are required to achieve this goal in biotechnology. Currently, engineered microbes were trained to produce C4-C8, fed on carbon-rich waste materials. The aim of this project is to validate the efficiency of selected bacterial combinations in fermentation, to yield maximum production in fermenting C5-C8 branched alcohols from renewable green industrial waste.
