Thelper AS is Norwegian Biotechnology Company located at the Oslo Cancer Cluster Incubator. Thelper develops new immunotherapies against aggressive and metastatic cancers. Thelper has identified a previously unknown flagg protein, which is expressed at the surface of aggressive breast cancer cells. The Company has developed and applied intellectual property rights for binding molecules targeting the flagg protein. These binding molecules enable development of immunotherapy that connects the flag protein, and thereby the cancer cells, together with patient´s own immune cells. The connection stimulates immune cells to destroy the cancer cells without damaging normal cells in the body. Thelper´s innovation and further product development will focus on treatment targeting the triple negative breast cancer. Standard treatments or newer immunotherapies, which show great treatment effect in many cancers, have not been effective against this cancer type. Expected survival for patients diagnosed with metastatic triple negative breast cancer is approximately 13 months. The immunotherapy which Thelper develops, may both increase survival and reduce side effects when compared with current, medical treatments. Thelper´s industrial PhD project aims to summarize, report and publish the scientific results that arise from the pre-clinical research and testing of Thelpers binding molecules in "Proof of Concept" cell studies and animal trials. The project includes also studies investigating significance of the flag protein for specific subtypes of triple negative breast cancer. This is a new, scientific research area, which have not been explored earlier. The project is related to Thelper´s IPN project, which has recently received research grants from the Norwegian Research Council (Project number 327151).
