Can a single antimicrobial product provide the Armed Forces with better field hygiene, a means of rinsing wounds, and of protection against chemical and biological threats (CBRN-protection)? Normally, people associate the Armed Forces with an organization that aims to protect the country from enemy forces from other countries or groups. However, the Armed Forces is involved in another war that continues into peacetime. This is the war against the microbes. This fight is taking place on several levels: • Preventive infection control and hygiene to combat the occurrence of disease-causing microbes and reduce the number of sick soldiers who are not engaged in battle. • Keep wounds clean and fight wound infections. For this purpose the armed forces use bactericidal wound wash. • Protective measures against intentional attack with bioweapons (CBRN protection). To protect themselves against such threats, the Armed Forces uses masks and suits, but also medicines that can reduce the effects of the chemical and biological weapons. The products from SoftOx base their technology on the body's own solution for fighting bacteria and viruses - hypochlorous acid. In combination with acetic acid, you get an antimicrobial agent that is far more effective, than the individual acids alone. This makes it possible to keep the concentrations of the acids in the range that is no-toxic to the body's cells and tissues. SoftOx has developed products for surface disinfection, hand disinfection, wound washing, as well as a medical inhaler for treating respiratory infections. n this project, it will be investigated whether the use of the product in the field can improve field hygiene, and in addition can replace existing products for wound washing. In addition, to investigate whether there are applications of the product within CBRN protection. If so, armed forces can develop products that act as a first-line defense against pandemics and chemical and biological weapons.
