Modelling organic pollutants in permafrost soils

Awarded: NOK 38,557

Persistant Organic Pollutans (POPs) are toxic chemicals that adversely affect human health and the environment. They persist for long periods of time in the environment and can accumulate and pass from one species to the next through the food chain. Understanding the factors that determine changes in levels of POPs observed in the Arctic is essential for a valid interpretation of trends and so that valid conclusions can be drawn about for example the effectiveness of policy measures. The main purpose of the project is upscaling the data projections, from modelling inside a sampled catchment scale area to regional scale.
