E!55:BabySensor-Pre: An innovative contactless health monitor to protect premature babies and reassure new parents

Alternative title: E!55: BabySensor-Pre: En innovativ kontaktløs helsemonitor som beskytter premature babyer og gir trygghet til foreldre

Awarded: NOK 5.5 mill.

BabySensor’s mission is to provide access to contactless health monitoring to both parents and healthcare professionals to protect premature/vulnerable babies. This will increase the quality of life for parents of vulnerable infants and increased health and care services for babies. This project will build upon our proof of concept and proprietary sensor technology to develop an approved product that detects health vitals through contactless imaging alone. BabySensor-Pre will use novel technology including cue recognition and remote thermal data fusion to provide actionable insights to parents and care-givers, whilst minimising false alarms. Since the 1980s, premature birth rates have risen by 36% and today, 1 in 8 babies are born prematurely. Premature babies require significant health monitoring both at the hospital and at home. In addition, over 200,000 children under 5 in Europe have severe health problems. In hospital, biometrics including blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels or heart rate are monitored through sensors attached to the body, but this is not appropriate in the home. As such, parents of vulnerable infants are reliant on baby conventional domestic monitors, which are primarily designed for parents with healthy babies.

This will increase the quality of life for parents of vulnerable infants and increased health and care services for babies. This project will build upon our proof of concept and proprietary sensor technology to develop a novel hospital-grade, camera-based product that detects health vitals through contactless imaging alone. BabySensor-Pre will use a novel combination of ultra-low-light Remote-photoplethysmography (RPPG) sensing, facial cue recognition and remote thermal data fusion to provide actionable insights to parents and care-givers, whilst minimising false alarms. After deduction of materials and distribution costs, we forecast a 5-year cumulative Gross Profit of €19.8m based on sales of 47,745 units by 2029. Over the same timescale: Our partner Glance Group Ltd will generate cumulative Gross Profits of €1.8m from royalties. Our other partner, Vicarious Perception Technologies (VicarVision) B.V, cumulative Gross Profits of €3.9m from developed project IP licensing fees and royalties.
