INTPART-International Partnerships for Excellent Education and Research

International Alliance for Strengthening Cybersecurity and Privacy in Healthcare

Alternative title: Internasjonal allianse for å styrke cybersikkerhet og personvern i helsevesenet

Awarded: NOK 10.0 mill.

Security and privacy concerns of the emerging healthcare domain are crucial because patients’ medical information needs to be protected against potential threats and risks. The dynamic collaboration between research institutes, universities, and hospitals for excellent education, research, and innovation activities is important in offering efficient security and privacy solutions by observing real-world health sector challenges. Therefore, the CybAlliance project aims to develop an international alliance between top-notch Norwegian, German, French and American institutions with world-class research and education facilities to strengthen cybersecurity and privacy in healthcare. The CybAlliance partners are the Norwegian Computing Center, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Oslo University Hospital, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Telecom SudParis and Goethe University Frankfurt. The qualifying projects for CybAlliance are ASCERT(#329062) and SFI NORCICS(#310105). CybAlliance brings added value to these projects by offering international collaboration and support to their envisioned activities. It also enhances the collaboration in the research and education community of cybersecurity and privacy. CybAlliance activities are also aligned with the National Cyber Security Strategy for Norway. CybAlliance enhances healthcare security and privacy competence by boosting international collaboration in research and education strategies with short-term and long-term impacts. CybAlliance targets the relevant stakeholders, i.e., researchers, students, academicians, patients, doctors, hospitals, and caretakers. CybAlliance will organize open seminars (available to all stakeholders inside and outside the project) and workshops to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the domain. To enlarge the impacts, two stakeholders, Norway Health Tech and European Cluster for Securing Critical Infrastructures (ECSCI), facilitate the dissemination of project results.

The main purpose of the proposed INTPART project is to establish a long-term partnership between the Norwegian Computing Center (NR, Norway), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU, Norway), Oslo University Hospital (OUS, Norway), University of Colorado (UCCS, USA), Institut Mines Telecom/Telecom SudParis (IMT, France), and Goethe University Frankfurt (GUF, Germany). This project aims to strengthen the existing collaboration between relevant national and international partners of the ASCERT (AI-Based Scenario Management for Cyber Range Training) and SFI NORCICS (Norwegian Centre for Cybersecurity in Critical Sectors) and projects. This involves extending the originally envisioned activities among the involved education and research institutions. Along with existing collaborators of ASCERT and NORCICS partners, two additional partners OUS (national), and UCCS (international) partners are also part of the CybAlliance consortium to further advance the research, education, dissemination, and networking activities of ASCERT and NORCICS at national and international levels. This international partnership is centred around activities that promote excellence in both research and education in cybersecurity and privacy in the healthcare sector in Norway, USA, France, and Germany. CybAlliance will provide added value to both qualifying projects by offering international collaboration and support to extend the originally envisioned activities. CybAlliance also brings in added value on its own, beyond its support of ASCERT and NORCICS, by boosting the collaboration in cybersecurity and privacy research and education community. To facilitate the dissemination of the CybAlliance results globally, the project will have a direct link with two stakeholders “Norway Health Tech (NHT)” and "European Cluster for Securing Critical Infrastructures (ECSCI)" to disseminate project outcomes to the national and international NHT and ECSCI members.
